Our Program

Located just east of Springfield in beautiful southwest Missouri, RLB Genetics is a breeder of registered Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle.

For years, the farm was home to the family’s registered Holstein dairy. In 1981, registered Simmental were added to the mix, and our move towards beef production began. In the 1990s, the decision was made to discontinue the dairy operation and disperse most of the registered Simmental.

Our venture into the Gelbvieh breed began in the fall of 1990 with the acquisition of a weaned heifer from the Riley Gelbvieh Ranch dispersal. This beautiful Statesman daughter developed into the epitome of our ideal beef cow and set the focus for our breeding program for years to come. While this enterprise began as a partnership with our friend and neighbor, by 1995 he had decided to pursue other interests. We stayed the course and have never looked back.

Over the past 25+ years, our cowherd has grown to nearly 50 head of registered brood cows and another 25 commercial females used as recipients in our embryo transfer program. We strive to produce cattle that will not just survive but thrive on the fescue that is so abundant in the region. Our emphasis is on breeding functional cattle with sound feet and legs and excellent udders to build cowherd longevity. Most of our bulls are sold locally to commercial cattlemen, with a few select females selling as show heifers. Creating ideal genetics takes time, but our effort has remained consistent and we see progress toward our goals in every calf crop.
